Now it gets ugly............

I pulled out my embroidering and cross-stitching things. I never did a lot of it, but I'd like to take on a project. If you've been over to see Mary Corbet's work, you'll see why my appetite has been whetted for a real worthwhile project. Here's something I made years ago. It's called Enchanted Alphabet. I think it was a pattern line called Lavender and Lace, but I'm not exactly sure. I really ought to mat and frame it.........
I thought I had an unworked pattern from the same designer somewhere, but I haven't run across it yet in the archaeology project that is my crafting stuff. You can tell by the wrinkles in the cloth what a jumble I've let things be in.
I had to buy so many colors of DMC floss to work the Enchanted Alphabet, but I didn't use any of them up, so there they sit, wound on the cards and stored in the box for years and years.
So, you see that I have some supplies that could get me started on a project.
*********************************
Now you see the ugly truth about my disorganization of my supplies. No wonder I don't have an ordered thought in my head about what kind of project to start on. I am publicly vowing to turn over a new leaf and treat my things with more respect, organize them and put together a plan for stitching up a project.

Good Morning Wendy,

In 1983, I was introduced to the world of Cross-stitch. It didn't take long for me to get hooked--no pun intended!! I would arise early every morning just to put "a few" more stitches on a piece that I was working on. Then, during my lunch break from work, I would literally stitch instead of eat, and as soon as I came in from work, I would pick up the hoop again. I would cook and stitch at the same time. Needless to say, cross-stitching became an obsession with me. The sad thing about it, was, that most of the things I stitched were given away as gifts to people that had little knowledge of how much work went into completing the item they were gifted!

I wasn't happy with simple designs--mine had to be REPLICAS of 1800 samplers, bell pulls with multiple pics, pillows that required construction...etc! I have an unfinished piece of The Ten Commandments, still in the hoop that I "put down" in the late 90's. Somehow, while working on it, I had an awakening that I had become "addicted" to something that was intended only to bring pleasure to me by allowing me to have a creative outlet.

One day, I hope to finish that piece. But until then, I am happy at my new found creative outlet of restoration and remodeling a century old farmhouse, taking it one day at a time.

I didn't say all that to offend you. I just felt for some reason to "testify" this morning. You DO need to mat and frame that alphabet for sure--It will be a treasure to behold!

Thanks for sharing!

Oh my! I could have written this. My sewing room is a danger zone and I need to stop working on projects for a spell and bring some order to the chaos. That alphabet definitely needs finishing and framing!

Hello! I found your blog through your comment on Thimbleanna's - I totally agree, anyone can learn to knit! I also have a lot of DMC. Cross-stitch was not my thing, I could never keep the canvas clean! I think your alphabet is beautiful!

I put myself on a "buy no more craft supplies" diet last summer and am still working through mounds of stuff. Shameful.

Loved your last comment. I remain one of the last women in a dress on Sunday morning in a sea of denim and will NEVER wear PJ's to the grocery. I feel bad enough when wearing a cute velor track suit. :)

We've got loads of craft supplies around here, too. I agree that you should frame and enjoy your beautiful cross stitch alphabet!
